Special Design Office of Wireless Devices (SKB RTU) was formed on the basis of the department of chief designer of the Topaz factory in 1987 by the need to create new and promising models of special equipment.

Special Design Office of Wireless Devices state enterprise was reorganized into Special Design Office of Wireless Devices open joint-stock company – a subsidiary of the Topaz state joint-stock holding company (JSC SKB RTU – subsidiary of the Topaz state joint-stock holding company) by the order of the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine №313 from 09.10.1996 according to the decision of the Ministry of Ukraine №1180 on creation of the Topaz state joint-stock holding company from 28.09.1996 to ensure effective operation and development of common scientific, technical and production complex on working out, production and application of modern samples of domestic special electronics.

100 percent of the stocks of JSC SKB RTU – subsidiary of the Topaz state joint-stock holding company were transferred to the authorized capital of the Topaz state joint-stock holding company in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Ukraine №1226 from 06.08.2003.

JSC SKB RTU – subsidiary of the Topaz state joint-stock holding company was renamed into Special Design Office of Wireless Devices public joint-stock company (PJSC SKB RTU) from 26.04.2011 in accordance with the law of Ukraine "On joint-stock companies".

The main activity of PJSC SKB RTU is carrying out of research and development works for the purpose of working out, modernization, maintenance of production of the equipment prototypes, stations, complexes of electronic reconnaissance and warfare.

PJSC SKB RTU is the enterprise of unique scientific and technical profile, strategically important for defensive capacity of the state, forming perspective scientific and technical policy in the branch on creation of modern national systems of radio reconnaissance and electronic resistance.

PJSC SKB RTU is the participant of the program of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on creation of electronic reconnaissance systems and government program on reforming and development of defense and industrial complex.

The enterprise is included in the list of state-owned objects not subject to privatization, in accordance with the law of Ukraine "On the list of state-owned objects not subject to privatization" (№874-14).

PJSC SKB RTU is the collective member of the Ukrainian technological academy and Engineering academy of Ukraine.

Educational research-and-production complex is created in common with chair of Electronic Systems of Donetsk national technical university and branch of the chair of Electronic Systems is organized at the enterprise.

In 2004 expert group of PJSC SKB RTU was awarded with the State Prize of Ukraine in science and technology for working out and production of the complex of electronic reconnaissance of new generation.

In 2004 and 2007 workers of the enterprise received the rank of "Young Scientist of the Year" at the regional competition.

In 2007 the enterprise was awarded with the Grand Prix National Prize "Best Product of the Year".

The state noted the enterprise as "Branch Leader 2010" in the region according to official government statistics.
